How do I look up probate records in Ohio? ›

Contact the Probate Court or Clerk of Courts in a specific county of interest for more information. Several repositories across the state collect local government records from nearby county courts. No probate at all is necessary if the estate is worth less than $5,000 or the amount of the funeral expenses, whichever is less.

You won't go to jail for failing to open a probate case in Ohio, but that doesn't mean there won't be consequences.
